From Colombo - By Car

Take the new Galle Highway to the second exit signed for Panadura. At the exit turn right to Ratnapura. Go through Ratnapura to Balangoda, on to Haputale and finally Bandarawela. Follow directions below from Bandarawela to Ambadandegama.
Journey Time 4-5 hours. Tip: Leave Colombo early morning and stop halfway for lunch or breakfast at Silver Ray Restaurant in Lellopitiya which is just after Ratnapura.

By Train

Book your ticket in advance (www.exporail.lk click the button on our useful links page to go to the website) and take the Badulla train to Bandarawela which is the stop before Ella (and is a bigger station even though not listed on the timetable for some strange reason!). You may need to book a ticket to Ella however, BE WARNED, if you decide to stay on the train till Ella you will add up to an extra hour of traveling time which is usually in the dark and trishaw charges from Ella will be higher. A trishaw from Bandarawela station should cost around Rs 1000-1,200. There are plenty of trishaws near the station however, we can arrange a pick up for you if you prefer.
Journey Time 9-10 hours by train plus 40 mins by trishaw.

From Bandarawela - By Car (approx. 11km)

Arriving in Bandarawela from Colombo, pass the bus station on your right hand side and at the roundabout turn right.
Arriving from Kandy/Nuwara Eliya, drive past Cargills supermarket on your right hand side and the Bandarawela Hotel on your left hand side and you will reach the same roundabout where you will turn left.

Travel downhill through the town on the main Badulla Road. You will pass a petrol shed on your left hand side and then the DAMRO shop on your right hand side. After a further 100m you will take a sharp right turn up a fairly steep hill with a sign for "Bandarawela Central College". After travelling uphill for a short distance, you will reach a three way junction, take the right hand road for approximately 7Km.

This road continues steeply uphill and you will pass a temple and then the road will wind downhill. At the first junction, turn right and continue uphill until you reach a T junction with a small dirt "cut through" straight ahead. Turn sharp right here and after 20-30m make a sharp left U-Turn. You will see a signpost for "Morning Mist and Amba Estate". You are now in our valley, follow the road downhill past "The Hideaway" and travel for approximately 3km. Cross the river, bear left through the village and travel uphill for 1/2Km. You will see a green concrete bus shelter on your left hand side with a narrow concrete road going straight ahead. Next to the bus shelter there is also another sign for "Morning Mist". Travel along the concrete road and go past Morning Mist. Keep going, the concrete road will finish and turn into cobbles...do not give up, you have almost arrived! Follow the cobbled track for a short distance until it opens up. Turn sharp left here and go past the Amba gate on your right hand side to reach Clove Tree House just a few meters down hill. Tea and Cake, hot showers and comfy beds await!
Journey Time from Bandarawela 35mins.

From the South Coast or Arugam bay – By Car

Drive to Wellawaya and from here take the road to Ella drive past Feelin' Good Resort and then the Ella Jungle Inn but don't go all the way to Ella! At the 18.3Km post in Kirandagolle you will see a sign for Planter's Bungalow and a green bus shelter on the left at the junction of a very sharp left had turn with another sign for Morning Mist and Amba Estate. Turn sharp left here and continue up this road all the way to the top of the hill where you will reach Ambadandegama village. Turn right at this junction and go down through the village to another green bus shelter on the right hand side where there is another sign for “Morning Mist”. Take this small concrete road until it becomes a cobbled track. After a few yards you will see the gate for Amba Estate. Turn left past the gate down a short track to Clove Tree.
